Split the bill: a free bill splitter, no account needed

One link for the whole table. Add what was on the bill, send the link, and everyone taps what they had. Settled works out each share, tax and tip included.

How it works

  1. Add the items. Type in what was on the bill, the tax and tip, and who paid. Nothing is saved until you press Create.
  2. Share the link. Create gives you a link. Send it to the table in any chat.
  3. Everyone taps what they had. Friends open the link, add their name and tap their own items. A shared dish is split between whoever had it, or unevenly with shares (two shares for the person who ate most of the fries).

Each person's total updates as people tap. Tax and tip are shared in proportion to what each person had, and the shares always add up to the exact bill, to the penny.

Why split by item

Dividing the total evenly is quick, but it is not fair when one person had a salad and another had steak and two cocktails. Splitting by item means everyone pays for what they had, and the tax and tip follow. The restaurant bill guide works through an example with real numbers.

Questions

Do my friends need an account?

No. Anyone with the link can join with a name. You don't need one either.

Is it free?

Yes. There are no ads and nothing to install. It works in any phone or computer browser.

Who can change the split?

Anyone who has joined can tap their own items and add an item. Only the person who created the split can edit or delete items, change the tax, tip or who paid, remove people, or lock it so nobody can change it.

How long does the link last?

A split nobody touches for 30 days is deleted. If you are signed in, the splits you create are listed on your home screen until then, and you can move one into a group to keep it with your other shared costs.

Is it private?

The link is the key: it is long and random, and split links are kept out of search engines. Anyone you send it to can open it, so share it with the table.

Does Settled take the payment?

No. It shows everyone what they owe. Pay the person who covered the bill however you like, with cash or a payment app.

Splitting costs all the time? For roommates, couples or a trip, create a free group: balances carry across every expense, and Settled suggests the fewest payments to settle up.
